Why Hillary voters should vote for Barack Obama

As a Hillary voter, I understand the disappointment many of you are feeling following her Primary loss.  I do believe Hillary Clinton was the superior candidate.  I still believe HIllary Clinton has a chance to be the nominee.  She still has her delegates, and the convention is a few months off.  If Senator Obama makes a major faux pas, or something new comes out that could hurt his candidacy, those delegates can certainly change their minds.  I'm not holding my breath...but I'm not cutting off my nose either.

The economy is in bad shape.  John McCain has flip flopped from being against continuing the tax cuts for the rich, and wants more of the same.    By 2010, when (and if) the Bush tax reductions are fully in place, an astonishing 52 percent of the total tax cuts will go to the richest one percent—whose average 2010 income will be $1.5 million. Their tax-cut windfall in that year alone will average $85,000 each. Put another way, of the estimated $234 billion in tax cuts scheduled for the year 2010, $121 billion will go just 1.4 million taxpayers.

The gas prices continue to rise, and all the complaining about the high cost of driving will be drowned out in a few months by the stories of people freezing to death because they can't pay to heat their houses.  Senator McCain has been a part of the problem.  In 2007, Senator McCain skipped a vote on energy legislation that increased CAFE standards. That same year, McCain missed a key vote on repealing tax giveaways to big oil, which only failed by one vote.

There's one other thing I just cannot forgive Senator John McCain for.  He repeatedly voted against raising the minimum wage.  There were 10 long years from 1997 to 2007 that the Republican Congress would not increase the minimum wage one penny.  Costs for workers went up exponentially, but the GOP lawmakers only cared about the business owners, at the expense of our nation's families.  That was shameful.

If you are against the war in Iraq, want universal health care, want equal pay for women, want us to care for our environment and want Supreme Court justices who understand what torture is, what due process is,  what privacy is, and won't control what you do with your body, you want to vote Senator Barack Obama for President.  It's believed the next President will most likely appoint 4 Supreme Court justices to the bench.  That is reason enough to vote for Barack Obama.

For those of you who say you will vote for John McCain, in the hopes that Hillary will run again in 4 years, I ask you to reconsider.  Our country's working class people, our soldiers, and our earth needs you to stop the insanity.  This is bigger than any one person.  Vote Democrat this November.
