Kevin is back from vacation, and we’ve returned to the usual routine. I just wanted to thank the co-hosts who graciously filled in with me while Kevin was enjoying sun and fun in Jamaica. It’s not easy to step in and talk about issues for 3 hours. Now before you get out the violin, I realize that what we do is NOT physically demanding, like digging ditches, or braving the cold and working construction. However, I can tell you that it’s not as easy as it may look, or sound. There are many people who have a gift for writing, but put a mic in front of them and nothing coherent comes out. Being good at one thing, doesn’t mean you’re good at another. Some people are gifted and can do both.
I tried to bring people in who could offer another viewpoint on the day’s events. It was Super Tuesday week, so I was thrilled to have on Joe Leonardi, who ran against Paul Kanjorski a few years ago. Okay, so he got creamed (as Bud Brown so eloquently put it in a recent newscast), but it was interesting to get his thoughts on the ‘Will he or won’t he” question surrounding Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta. Former Lackawanna County Commissioner Bob Cordaro made for a very interesting Super Tuesday show. Like him or hate him, you know just where he stands. That makes for good talk radio. Chris Lilik of the Young Conservatives of Pa. got me in touch with some good contacts to discuss the Super Tuesday results. There were conservatives like Pat Toomey, as well as liberals who chimed in. You could almost hear Toomey choking on his words as he acknowledged McCain as the GOP nominee. Vince Sweeney from the LuzerneCounty SPCA was so kind to come in while suffering from a terrible cold. He is a gentleman and a terrific communicator and it was a pleasure and honor to have him on the show. Funny thing, while we were chit-chatting during the breaks it seems he and I have mutual friends and contacts going back quite a few years. Small world, isn’t it Vince? Vince had also contemplated a run for Congress and declined. As did Joe Peters. He filled in on Friday with very short notice. Deb Dunleavy was supposed to be on, but had something urgent to attend to at the last minute. you on. Joe Peters is a man with a lot of experience in fighting the drug war and working with TomRidge in Homeland Security. I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing him in the near future running for state government..perhaps even as Governor.
On our WILK forums there were some questions as to why I would have tv people on the air. Do you care what they have to say? You let me know. It’s hard to bring a tv newsperson on a talk show because they really can’t have an opinion. However, I think Debbie Dunleavy and Vince Sweeney have a lot to say about the business, and because they are not on the air, they can let you know where they stand. Plus, they have great dirt on a business that can be very shallow behind the scenes.
It was an interesting week, and I hope the co-hosts added a different dimension to the program. If you have any suggestions on who you would like to hear from in the future, drop me a line.
