Hope turns to evil

To steal a phrase from Sen. Barack Obama: Let me be clear.
I do not believe the senator is ready to be president of the United States. He’s spent most of his time in the senate campaigning to become the next president. His opinions are confusing. His Iraq policy started out as “bring the troops home now” and has evolved into something a little more reasonable. He has no concrete plan to solve America’s issue du jour: Energy independence.
That being said, I lauded Sen. Obama today on something I believe is solid. He is an excellent role model for young family men . I applaud the very public way he’s spoken about the importance of fathers in the lives of children. I appreciate his attempt to embrace faith-based initiatives.
I also resent remarks made by Rev. Jesse Jackson, who apparently doesn’t know a hot mic from a hot dog. As a man who has curried favor with the media for decades, it’s stunning he wouldn’t know some hurtful remarks about Sen. Obama might be picked up in a broadcasting booth.
So, what do I get for my defense of Sen. Obama? Nasty email from someone who rides a very tall moral horse:
Sue, You are praising a evil evil man, read the email from someone with the email of Hope@msn.com.
I tried to respond, but this is a fake email address. Hope, what are you afraid of? The email included a link to the website World Net Daily, which featured a story I already knew about regarding Sen. Obama’s controversial opinion that a baby born during a botched abortion shouldn’t be allotted legal protection. That’s another opinion I part company with Sen. Obama over, too.
A few months ago, I said Sen. Hillary Clinton ran an admirable campaign. Soon, mail arrived on my desk about her pro choice stance. Surprisingly, I’m aware.
I implore these pro-life listeners to get a grip. You are doing much to harm your cause by throwing around words like “evil” and sending hand written letters about diabolical Hillary Clinton.
The repulsive displays you parade during rush hour on the Veterans’ Bridge in Wilkes-Barre are truly a turn off. The hate you harbor in your hearts will do nothing to prevent abortions.
I am pro life to the max. I hope people don’t see me as some kind of rigid, myopic hater who can’t see the worth of any human who holds a different view than I do.
The example Sen. Obama sets as a family man and loving husband isn’t evil. It’s commendable. This won’t win my vote in a turbulent election year, but it does win my respect. Cowardly email with no return address, a parade of disturbing signs and name calling do not. Women in crisis would be better served with outstanding role models, a comforting shoulder and the realization that life is sacred. Let me be clear: Name calling and sign waving aren’t going to cut it.
