I am very sorry I haven’t written anything on this blog lately, but today I can’t resist.
Nancy Kman and I attended the “Solutions for America” rally featuring former President Bill Clinton at Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre. The crowd was much smaller than I would have anticipated. Nancy noted Northeastern Pennsylvania might be suffering from “Clinton Fatigue” right now and I tend to agree. You certainly can’t eat lobster every day, after all. However, I had it twice over the weekend and still want lobster much more than I want Clintons at this point.
I am a known Republican, so I am going to try and temper my remarks here. So, here goes: Bill Clinton has lost his mojo. In the 1990s in the magical land of the Clintons, he could do no wrong. He was a magical speaker and held many in the nation spellbound with his hep cat cool. President Clinton is now an older American. Sure, he still tries to sell it as he traverses the Keystone State stumping for his wife. I think he believes in the message he delivers, although I have my doubts.
Here’s another stunner: I believe Sen. Clinton is now a much better campaigner than her husband. On the stage of Scranton High School, she had the crowd grazing from the palm of her hand. She created a frenzy in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, carrying a beautiful baby in a white coat down Wyoming Avenue. When President Clinton hoisted a baby in the Coughlin gym, he hoisted the child in the air a few times that made me think he was about to be covered in baby regurgitation. While Sen. Clinton now seems like the smooth operator, President Clinton has become a Polaroid of the past. |
